The Whisky Exchange managed to secure one of these Teeling 1991 casks again. Casks from the #106xx range have been used for the Vintage Reserve bottlings as well. They’ve proven to be wonderful and definitely among the fruitiest whisk(e)ys I know.

Teeling 27 yo 1991 (44,1%, OB for The Whisky Exchange 2019, rum cask #10678, 160 btl.)Nose: immediately on pineapple and passion fruits, with some lime, banana and guava as well. Really tropical, nicely candied and just so vibrant. A little polished oak and vanilla, as well as an earthy hint of clay in the background. Excellent.
Mouth: starts a tad shy, on malt and oak spice, but after five seconds it throws a truckload of tropical fruits at you. Pink grapefruit, guava, passion fruits. Starting bright and fresh, becomes a little more candied in the end (pineapple cubes). Touches of cinnamon and a very late, faint mineral note.
Finish: very long, with hints of bergamot tea, vanilla and cinnamon, always with a fruity base.
While last year’s Teeling for TWE had a bit more complexity due to the added sherry notes, this is at the pinnacle of the pure, tropical fruits style. Superb whiskey really, crystal clear and ever so drinkable. The Christmas present of my dreams. Only available from The Whisky Exchange.
