Miltonduff 1999 (The Whisky Exchange)

Miltonduff is one of these relatively unsexy names that can still surprise you with nice expressions. Which is probably why some independent bottlers regularly release them.

The Whisky Exchange / Speciality Drinks presented several of these Miltonduff 1999 casks in the past few months. We’re looking at cask #5015 bottled as a TWE exclusive single cask.

Miltonduff 20 yo 1999 (50,7%, The Whisky Exchange 2020, hogshead #5015, 222 btl.)

Nose: great. Hints of marshmallow and elderflower lemonade right away. Lemon sherbet and banana, then some pineapple and guava as well. Whiffs of women’s powder and subtle wax. Meadow flowers. Quite feminine in a way, very seductive.

Mouth: same luscious profile. Creamy vanilla, bananas again, then brighter / greener gooseberries and hints of peaches as well. Elderflower. Some candy sweetness but also oak spice to give it more punch. Light caramel and a nice mint / lime combination. Sheer pleasure, but showing decent complexity.

Finish: medium, more on apple peelings, citrus and light grassy / leafy notes.

Middle-aged Miltonduff is usually very drinkable but often comes accross younger than it actually is. There is this delicate, ethereal side which makes it light and seductive. This one is an excellent example, much more to my liking than sister cask #5014 actually. Recommended and still available from The Whisky Exchange.
