GlenAllachie 2009 cask #5584 for DeinWhisky.de

DeinWhisky.de selected a GlenAllachie single cask recently. Bottled from an Oloroso sherry puncheon, apparently first-fill.

This is the new black-and-white presentation from this distillery, one that hasn’t been seen often, certainly not for shop exclusives.

GlenAllachie 10 yo 2009 (57,8%, OB for DeinWhisky.de, Oloroso puncheon #5584, 678 btl.)

Nose: deep sherry aromas, with classic figs and dates, rum & raisins, but also fruitier (tart) notes like red berries, baked banana and a hint of roasted pineapple. Plenty of toffee notes, some chocolate and some nuts (almonds, hazelnuts). Hints of peppermint, crushed black peppercorns and tobacco in the background.

Mouth: rather pungent, with a hot brandy-like note up front. Plums, burnt sugar and more nuts (walnuts, hazelnuts). More herbal notes now as well. Mint, cinnamon and ginger. Dark chocolate. Hints of wormwood and Seville orange. A drop of water makes it sweeter and creamier.

Finish: long, with peppered chocolate, coffee and walnuts.

Great work by an unnamed cooper. I’m sure the distillate was fine as well. Be sure to check it out if you’re a fan of slightly herbal sherry bombs. Exclusively available from DeinWhisky.
